Four questions you might be asking yourself about the Third International Barcode of Life Conference:

What’s on the schedule for the conference?

The Conference will start with an opening reception on Monday evening, 9 November 2009, and will be followed by three days of meetings and a closing banquet. There will be a plenary session each morning, parallel technical sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a Meso-American Plenary Symposium on Thursday. Poster presentations will be on display throughout the conference.

Be sure to check out the Conference Program page on the conference website for a look at the speakers and topics. You’ll see that there will be presenters from around the world addressing barcoding topics from microbes to mammals and everything in between. This is your opportunity to learn what’s going on in DNA barcoding and to get involved in future activities!

What will the conference registration fee cover?

The registration fee entitles you to:

· Admission to all the pre-conference workshops and conference sessions;

· Lunches and coffee breaks during the pre-conference workshops and conference meetings

· Bus transportation between the two conference hotels and the pre-conference and conference venues;

· Admission to the opening reception on Monday evening, 9 November 2009;

· Admission to the closing banquet on Wednesday evening, 11 November 2009;

· Bus transportation to the opening reception and closing banquet with return to the two conference hotels; and

· Copies of the conference documents.

Where should I stay during the conference?

The conference organizers have negotiated excellent rates with two hotels and have asked them to hold blocks of rooms for the conference. Bus transportation will be provided between these two hotels and the pre-conference and conference venues. To take advantage of the specially discounted conference rates, reservations must be made directly through the conference website.

The Royal Pedregal will be the main conference headquarter hotel. It lies within the heart of the Pedregal district in the south of Mexico City, surrounded by exclusive residential areas, shopping and entertainment. From the expansive lobby/atrium to the peaceful garden, the cozy public settings to the modern rooms, the Royal Pedregal aims to please with quality service and amenities. The combination of location and excellence, matched with complimentary shuttle service to and from the conference venue and scheduled social events, highlight the Royal Pedregal as the recommended hotel. Make your reservation before space runs out!

The Fiesta Inn offers moderately priced accomodations and many desirable amenities. Currently, all the rooms reserved for the conference have been booked and no new reservations are being accepted. More rooms may become available in the future, but this is not certain. The conference organizers therefore urge participants to reserve rooms at the Royal Pedregal while space remains.

What else is there to do in Mexico City before and after the conference, and what can my companion do while I’m at the meeting?

Mexico City, described as a ‘passionate, cosmopolitan, sprawling metropolis’ by Frommer’s Guide, provides visitors with the unique opportunity to enjoy both urban sophistication and enduring traditions and culture. Conference participants will be given the opportunity to enjoy the captivating sights and experiences in a selection of sightseeing tours and multi-day excursions. From half-day explorations of the mysterious ruins of Teotihuacan to a three-day excursion to picturesque Merida and Cancun, more details on these guided adventures will be announced soon!
